Ritual singing

I was at the Alternatives Solistice Ritual last night. I pretty much hated it.

Nicky Slade led pretty nice Kirtan.

This was ritual singing. Using Kirtan to get everybody into a good, heart-open state for the ritual.

Kirtan is so hippy.

Is it legitimate to want to create a western version?

Yes :) Creativity.

Also a bit more upbeat or something - yep, the rhythm picked up by Nicky Slade was a bit kind of... drony.

Humm.

Puberty rites of passage

Bill Plotkin outlines a puberty rite of passage in Nature and the Human Soul p169 - 172. I found it really inspiring. I want to facilitate rites of passage just like that. I don't know yet when or how or who with.

I also saw a business model in it - say you support 300 young people in a year - say, 2 rites of passage a month with groups of 10 - 30 in each - at £100 per young person - you could make a living from that.

The two books referenced were:

Crossroads: the quest for contemporary rites of passage, Mahdi and Meade, 1996

Art and Soul Teen Initiation Rite: A Community and Family Rite of Passage Enactment - Kia Woods 1997
